Yay for deviled eggs

June 29

So the deviled eggs went over really well. There weren't any left so I suppose that people liked them. The BBQ was much more fun that I expected. Everyone was very social and very nice. We had an eccclectic group of people. Americans, French, British, Dutch, Ethiopian, and then Ugandans of course. Everyone has a completely different story. I loved the food that the Ethiopians brought. It's probably my new favorite ethnic food. Our two friends came, Andrew and Joan. Andrew also brought some of his family members. They weren't shy about helping themselves to all of the food. So we are slowly accumulating more and more friends. The BBQ lasted very late, and then we went out after that, so both Dustin and I were wiped out through most of Sunday.

Today I have already gone to set up my massage for tomorrow. I still don't know what else I want to do. I really want to get sushi in the evening, but I'm a little nervous about eating raw fish while I'm here. I might have to stick with the tempura. I really just want some hot saki. Very exciting. I'll be sure to let ya'll know how it goes.

  1. Hey It's Uncle Ed,

Glad to see you are getting back on track with your project. Sorry it has been so long since I posted. We had a good time with your Mom and Christopher last weekend and next weekend Nanny Ann & Nanny Bill, and Caroline are coming for a visit. MC had her Bday on Friday and had fun and Andrew finished his Eagle Scout project, so he only has paperwork left. Everything else is going well here, just very hot. I hope you have a great birthday. I read a good article in the Dallas Morning News I thought you might like - Here is the link - http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/dn/opinion/viewpoints/stories/DN-iyer_28edi.State.Edition1.1d8b1da.html

I will also email it to you in case this does not work.

    Take Care - Love,

    Uncle Ed

  2. i guess this means your birthday is soon... so happy birthday to you! i hope the message works out and the saki comes ito fruition. i am enjoying keeping in touch so well with your experiences.

here's some news from the homeland: i have planted a wonderful veggie garden with melanie and another fiend rebecca. it is growing fabulously! we picked our first squash yesterday with a reverant ceremony to boot. we have also gotten four beans. i don't think it will be long till we have ctalope, cucumbers, tomatos, watermelon, eggplant...

i am still working at the restaurant on friday and saturday nights. i really like the job and interacting with different guests every night.

i have just finished my OB rotation. so i got to see babies born! what a wonderful experience. i have really enjoyed this particular rotation because i have learned a lot about women's health care... which is of course how i am hoping to serve in the future. this week i don't have clinicals, but next week i start my psych rotation! should be interesting. monday i go to an AA meeting.

next weekend i will fly out to oregon for my friend abbie's wedding. i am really excited! i think it will be a lot of fun. brooke and the rents are coming too.

i know you don't have much time to sit and read updates, so i'll leave it at that.

i love you ginger! and am glad for you in this experience and praying for you as you move forward with the projects!

  3. Mmm...sushi and saki indeed! I'm glad you guys are not only working hard but playing hard too. I wonder if they Ethiopian food was anything like Abyssinia's? I'm glad you guys have figured out how to progress with your work even with bureacratic speed bumps. I'm in the wait and see mode too as I haven't heard back from the IRB. But since I can't do much at MIFA I'm taking a few days off and visiting my family over the 4th. Should be nice since I haven't had a break since Spring Break, which I worked over come to think of it. Can't wait to see you when you get back and thanks for putting so much into this blog! I love reading your posts!

  5. Happy Happy Birthday my sweet first born. A child's B-day is often a reflective day for a parent. You were a beautiful baby when you were born. Just a slight mark on the forehead from the forceps. You have grown to become a beautiful woman both inside and out. Remeber that you were born on your great grandmothers birthday. We had already picked out her name as yours. She was a wonderful woman. Where the time has gone I have no idea. I have to tell you my most vivid memories are of you in pink. Pink ballet suit at four. Your pink prom dress at seventeen. Ok so I am trying not to get teary. Have a wonderful day. Love you much. Mom
